Carlos and I have always loved the idea of tiny houses. There’s something so appealing about creating a small, functional space that feels like a home. In 2023, we finally decided to turn that dream into a reality—and make it our first project together.
We started with drawings, putting our ideas together on paper, discussing layouts and features we both loved. We also both agreed that the tiny home will have a cosy little fireplace to keep the space warm in winter. Once we had a plan, we ordered all the materials we needed. Seeing the boxes and supplies arrive was exciting—it felt like our vision was finally becoming real.
Carlos is a builder, so he had the skills to make it happen. I, on the other hand, learned along the way. We found a little piece of land in Queenstown with the most stunning mountain backdrop, the perfect spot and most beautiful office you can wish for!
The whole process wasn’t easy. After finishing our regular jobs, we would head straight to the tiny house site to build. Then we’d go home late, cook dinner, and do it all again the next day. The days were long, and there were plenty of challenges along the way—unexpected delays, new skills to learn, and moments of exhaustion.
But step by step, we made progress. Every wall that went up, every detail that came together—it felt like an achievement. After eight months of hard work, we finally finished our tiny house. Standing back and looking at what we had built together was one of the most rewarding feelings I’ve ever experienced.
The best part? We sold the tiny house once it was completed. It felt amazing to know that something we built from scratch would become someone else’s home.
This project taught us so much—not just about building, but about teamwork, patience, and what we can accomplish when we use our time wisely and stay productive. It was our first project together, and it won’t be the last. We’re already dreaming about what we might create next!
